Due to weather from Tropical Storm Hilary, LAUSD has announced that all schools are closed tomorrow, Monday, August 21st. 

For latest information about the impact of Hurricane Hilary, please visit LAUSD.org.Updates about our school will also be communicated to families directly either by LAUSD or through our Gardner emails, website and text messages. Back-to-School Picnic 
 5-7 PM on the lower yard
Come wrap up summer and celebrate the start of school at a Gardner Picnic. This event is completely free and BYOP! (Bring your own picnic!) So pack a blanket and some dinner and join us on the yard to meet other Gardner families and get the weekend started. 
 

REMINDERS
        
Gardner Green Starts Tuesday!
Beginning this Tuesday, bring your CLEAN glass, aluminum and plastic bottles, cans and containers to drop-off and leave them outside the double glass doors. Gardner Green normally occurs every Monday, but due to the school closure, we will be collecting them this Tuesday only. Our Gardner Green team will then take them to recycling centers and turn them into cash. It's the easiest way to help the planet and Gardner at the same time!

Picnic de regreso a la escuela

Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year! It's going to be SPECTACULAR! 

Here's what's happening in...

THE WEEK AHEAD
August 14th - August 18th

We know there is a lot to read this week, but please read it all so the first day goes as smoothly as possible. 

MONDAY, AUGUST 14TH
First Day of School! 
 8:15 AM start time
We're back! Please arrive early this week so we can get everyone where they need to be in a timely manner. The first week (the first day especially!) is always a little hectic, so we just ask that you bring patience with your backpacks. Everyone is doing the best they can - including our students. Have questions or need some help? Look for our Gardner Greeters. They'll be the ones wearing fox ears around the school and are ready to assist. 

Parking
We know the first day many parents are parking to walk their students in rather than drop off. But the valet line on Gardner will still be available. If you are using valet, drive north down Gardner from Sunset Blvd. Pull into the cones next to the fence and Mr. Panzer and volunteers will be there to open the door for your child and send them inside. If you are parking, tomorrow or any day, please remember to use good citizenship. Parking around Gardner is limited, BUT it's always available around the neighborhood. You do not have to park right next to the school. Please also be courteous to our neighbors. Do not move their trashcans and do NOT park in, or block driveways. Please do not double park, park in the middle of the street with flashers, park in red zones or park on corners. And please do not make U-turns in the middle of these streets. This is all for the safety of our students who are walking in. Lastly, please be nice out there to fellow parent drivers - your children are watching. 

UTK/TK/Kindergarten
If you have a UTK, TK or kindergarten student, please bring them to the auditorium when you arrive. Classroom lists will be posted in the auditorium and these teachers will be there with signs so you can find them. We will then dismiss students by classroom and they will all walk to their classrooms together. We know it's tempting to go to their rooms with them, but we find that they transition easier when they all go in together. Please talk about this with your students ahead of time so they are more prepared. Goodbyes with some of these littles can be difficult, but they will have lots of support and we promise that you will all be ok! 

1st - 5th Grade
Classroom lists will be posted all over the school. Please find your teacher's name and then go outside to the lower yard and find your teacher. All teachers will be holding signs with their names and gathering their classes. Once all students are accounted for, teachers will take their classes back to their rooms. 


Coffee with Cabrera
 8:30 AM
Once the goodbyes are over, please meet in the auditorium for coffee with our principal. She will answer questions and go over any things to know for the year ahead. 


Minimum Day
 12:50 Dismissal
The first day is a doozie! There will be a 12:50 dismissal time on the first day only. 

UTK/TK, kinder and first grade must always be picked up from their classrooms. Those are most accessible by entering the glass doors on Hawthorn. Second through fifth grade are all dismissed out on the lower yard every day. Those students are most accessible through the gate on Gardner. All students enrolled in STAR or Beyond the Bell/Youth Services will be picked up from their class by their program.

Every Tuesday is an early dismissal. School is dismissed at 2:43 all other days. 



THURSDAY, AUGUST 17TH
Friends of Gardner Meeting 
 8:30 AM in the auditorium
It's the first FoG. meeting of the year! And as a parent, you are already a member of our parent group. We hope all parents will attend to find out more about how you can get involved, and to make new friends! ¡Primer dia de escuela!
 8:15 hora de inicio
¡Estamos de vuelta! Llegue temprano esta semana para que podamos llevar a todos a donde deben estar de manera oportuna. La primera semana (¡especialmente el primer día!) siempre es un poco agitada, así que solo te pedimos que tengas paciencia con tus mochilas. Todos están haciendo lo mejor que pueden, incluidos nuestros estudiantes. ¿Tiene preguntas o necesita ayuda? Busque nuestros Gardner Greeters. Serán los que lleven orejas de zorro en la escuela y estén listos para ayudar.

Estacionamiento 
Sabemos que el primer día muchos padres se estacionan para acompañar a sus hijos en lugar de dejarlos. Pero la línea de aparcacoches de Gardner seguirá estando disponible. UTK/TK/Kindergarten
Si tiene un estudiante de UTK, TK o kindergarten, tráigalo al auditorio cuando llegue. Las listas de los salones de clases se publicarán en el auditorio y estos maestros estarán allí con letreros para que pueda encontrarlos. Luego, despediremos a los estudiantes por salón de clases y todos caminarán juntos a sus salones de clase. Sabemos que es tentador ir a sus habitaciones con ellos, pero descubrimos que la transición es más fácil cuando van todos juntos. Hable de esto con sus estudiantes con anticipación para que estén más preparados. Las despedidas con algunos de estos pequeños pueden ser difíciles, pero tendrán mucho apoyo y ¡prometemos que todos ustedes estarán bien!

1° - 5° Grado

Первый день школы!

Мы вернулись! Пожалуйста, приезжайте пораньше на этой неделе, чтобы мы могли своевременно доставить всех туда, где они должны быть. Первая неделя (особенно первый день!) всегда немного беспокойная, поэтому мы просто просим вас запастись терпением. Все стараются, как могут, в том числе и наши учащиеся. Есть вопросы или нужна помощь? Ищите наших  специальных приветствующих школы Гарднер. Они будут носить лисьи ушки по всей школе и всегда готовы помочь.
 

ПАРКОВКА
Мы знаем, что в первый день многие родители паркуются, чтобы проводить своих детей, а не высаживать их. Служба парковки на Гарднере по-прежнему будет доступна. Если вы пользуетесь временной парковочной линией, езжайте на север по Гарднеру от бульвара Сансет. Въезжайте в огороженное конусами отделение рядом с забором, мистер Панцер и волонтеры будут там, чтобы открыть дверь для вашего ребенка и проводить его. Если вы будете парковаться завтра или в любой другой день, пожалуйста, будьте хорошими гражданами. Парковка вокруг Гарднера ограничена, НО всегда доступна другая в этом районе. Это все для безопасности наших учеников, которые идут пешком. Кроме того, пожалуйста, будьте вежливы с другими родителями-водителями – ваши дети на вас смотрят.


UTK/TK//Детский сад
Если у вас есть ученики UТК, ТК или детского сада, пожалуйста, приведите их в аудиторию, когда придете. Списки классов будут вывешены в аудитории, их учителя будут стоять там с табличками, чтобы вы могли их найти. Затем мы разведём учеников по классам, и они все вместе пойдут в свои классы. Мы знаем, что вы хотите зайти с ними в их классы, но как показывает практика, дети легче привыкают, когда входят все вместе. Пожалуйста, поговорите об этом со своими детьми заранее, чтобы они были более подготовлены. 1-5 класс

Как только вы попрощаетесь с детьми, пожалуйста, встретьтесь в аудитории за чашечкой кофе с нашим директором. Она ответит на вопросы и расскажет обо всем, что нужно знать на предстоящий год.
 

Сокращённый день
12:50 Окончание
Первый день – необычный! Только в первый день время окончания будет в 12:50.

UТК/ТК, дошкольников и первоклассников всегда нужно забирать из их классов. К ним легче всего добраться, войдя через стеклянные двери на Hawthorn. Со второго по пятый класс выходят через нижний двор каждый день. Их наиболее удобно встретить через ворота на Гарднере.

Каждый вторник – сокращённый день. Во все остальные дни школа закрывается в 2:43.


Четверг, 17 августа
Встреча друзей Гарднера
 8:30 в актовом зале
Это первая встреча года друзей школы Гарднер (FoG)! И как родитель, вы уже являетесь членами нашей родительской группы. Мы надеемся, что все родители придут, чтобы узнать больше о том, как вы можете принять участие в жизни школы, и завести здесь новых друзей!
