We Are One - ICE response team training
We had a great turnout at Friday's We Are One meeting about our school and community's response to the current federal ICE raids in our city. We may be able to host additional training from outside organizations about how to recognize and defend against ICE, but we first need to know how many people would be interested in such a training. Please fill out this very brief google form to answer whether or not you are interested. The form will be open until 4PM this Wednesday.
Tuesday, August 26th
Lower Yard Closed for Drop off and Pick Up
We will be renting out the lower yard as a basecamp for a filming location on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. This means that the lower yard, Gardner carpool line and Gardner Gate will be closed for drop off and pick up on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. Carpool line will continue on Hawthorn only. In addition, pick up will be at the "late gate" entrance on Hawthorn. We understand that this is an inconvenience, but it's also very important that we secure this extra income. With Friends of Gardner fundraising down significantly, we need all the funds we can get to allow for our extra expenses. So please bring a little extra time and patience that day. We appreciate it.
SSC/LSLC/ELAC interest meeting

Our School Site Council, English Learners Advisory Committee, and Local School Leadership Council, are all advisory groups comprised of parents, community members, and school personnel, who help to make educational, financial and other decisions for Gardner. These are very important committees and we need parents who are willing to be a part of these groups. It's also a wonderful way to become more involved at Gardner and find out more about the decision making behind the scenes. If you are interested in joining any of these committees, please attend this meeting.

Family Dinner Night (and day!) at Shake Shack

It's our first Family Dinner Night of the year! And per tradition, it's at Shake Shack on Santa Monica Blvd! So don't even think about cooking that night. Join a big group on the patio that night from 5:30 to 8 PM, or get take out any time, all day long, but either way, 25% of the proceeds goes back to Gardner! Just mention Gardner when you pay or use code "DONATE" when ordering online or at the kiosk. Let's make some money while just eating dinner!

STAR NOVA registration still open!
If you're interested in signing your child up for an after school class with STAR NOVA, now is the time! As a reminder, you do NOT have to be registered with STAR for after-school care to take part in these courses. Classes start September 2nd! Go to www.starinc.org to register!
Gardner Green starts next week!
Start saving those bottles and cans, because our recycling program starts next week. Beginning Thursday, September 4th, fifth grade will be accepting your recycled items to turn back in for cash!
